Apple is rumored to be removing the notch from at least two of this year’s new iPhone models, with a purported iPhone 14 Pro display schematic leaking online showing the expected new pill-shaped and circular display cutouts that will feature on the device to house the front-facing selfie camera and Face ID components.
Originating on Weibo and later shared by leaker Jon Prosser, who says he has “independently been able to verify” that this schematic is real and accurately represents the display design of Apple’s next iPhone, the schematic matches earlier reports that suggested Apple would adopt a new hole + pill design for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, with Ross Young, an analyst for Display Supply Chain Consultants suggesting that Apple would keep the traditional notch design for the iPhone 14 and new plus-sized “iPhone 14 Max.”
Apple is rumored to introduce an all-new design with the iPhone 14, featuring a thicker chassis with no rear camera bump, iPhone 4-style round volume buttons, and more.
Leaker Jon Prosser shared concepts last year showing what the iPhone 14 will likely look like, suggesting that the device will feature new speaker and microphone grilles which will replace the individual holes on the bottom of the iPhone 13 with mesh cutouts that run across the bottom of the device.
It was reported last week that trusted Apple supplier Foxconn has started trial production of the iPhone 14, suggesting the company has now finalized the design of this year’s new iPhone model and is preparing factories for mass production later this year, ahead of the device’s launch in fall.
