How to send voice messages using iMessage on iPhone or iPad
Typed messages aren’t the only way users can communicate through iMessage. To make communication more personal, Apple allows users to send voice messages to one another through iMessage, giving users the option to record themselves speaking and then send the recording through iMessage, replacing typed text messages with a playback of a user’s voice.
How to send voice messages using iMessage on iPhone or iPad
- Open the Messages app on your iPhone or iPad
- Select a conversation/contact in the Messages list
- Tap and hold the audio messages icon near the botton-right
- Continue to hold the audio messages icon or swipe left to lock the recording to go hands-free
- Swipe upwards or tap the upwards arrow to send the voice note
Recipients of audio messages will be notified of the new message as they would do normally with traditional iMessages. The recipients have the option to save the voice messages, but by default they self destruct within 2 minutes of them being played.
