App Store testing new tags feature for narrowing down search results
Apple is testing a new tags feature in the App Store that helps users narrow down their search results to show more specific hits for the category of apps they are searching for.
First spotted by @Nickjsheriff on Twitter (via MacRumors), users now searching terms such as “trivia” are shown a row of tags, such as “multiplayer” and “questions,” letting users more easily find the type of apps they are searching for. Tapping on one of the tags applies a filter to the search that shows a different set of apps, more specific to what the user is expecting to find.
It is unclear when exactly Apple began rolling out the App Store tags however, reports claim the feature has been live in small numbers from early February.
The Apple Post has been able to verify the App Store tags are appearing in the UK as well as the US and do not require users to be on iOS 14.5, pointing to the update being a server-side change ahead of the feature launching fully within a future iOS update to all users.
