Apple likely told employees March 23 event date to catch out leakers, claims Jon Prosser
Apple likely started the rumors of a March 23 special event as part of a controlled leak to catch out employees sharing top-secret information, according to Jon Prosser in the latest episode of his YouTube series, Front Page Tech.
Up until event invitations failed to appear on Tuesday, it was widely rumored that Apple would host a special event from Apple Park on March 23 to introduce its long-awaited AirTags, new iPads, and possibly an updated Apple TV.
The event was expected to follow a similar formant to last year’s product launches, which saw Apple announce hardware in pre-recorded segments from different areas of the Cupertino campus.
Prosser, who previously vowed to shave his eyebrows off if Apple didn’t host an event on March 23, today suggests that following a spate of leaks, Apple’s internal counter-intelligence team likely shared the March 23 date with a select group of employees to see if the date was leaked out externally, helping narrow down its search to find who is sharing secret information with leakers and news sites.
Prosser said that he was told about Apple hosting an event in April back in February, but he chose to ignore the tip-off after other sources, including other well-known, reputable leakers heard about the March 23 date from their Apple informant.
The date for Apple’s April event is current unknown.
