iOS 14: All that’s new with Messages
Apple has given the Messages app an overhaul with iOS 14, allowing users to pin conversations to the top of their messages list, easily stay on top of the conversation in group threads through mentions and inline replies, and more.
While features such as the ability to retract messages and improved Audio Messages haven’t made it to iOS 14, Apple has unveiled some significant updates to one of iPhone’s most used apps. Starting with group conversations, users can reply directly to specific messages, with the recipient able to change their notification preferences to only be notified when they are directly mentioned within a message.
To save scrolling through a busy message list, Apple is adding the option to pin up to nine of your most important conversations to the top of your conversation list, so you can easily get to them, with the pins showing message bubbles when a reply is being sent to a pinned conversation, and more.
Smaller updates include the ability to add a group photo as well as a new way to see the contact pictures of those in a group thread.
