Apple will release its first ever ARM Mac at the end of 2020, according to reliable Apple insider Ming-Chi Kuo, who claims the first models to be released using an Apple-designed 5-nanometer processor will be a 13.3-inch MacBook Pro and a redesigned iMac.
It’s widely believed that Apple will announce the transition from Intel to ARM chips today at its highly anticipated Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), set to see the company unveil the future of iOS, macOS, tvOS, and watchOS.
Kuo claims that the new Apple-designed processors could allow the future Mac models to be between 50% and 100% faster than the current-generation Intel machines, with all Macs released from the end of 2020 onwards using ARM processors.
It was previously rumored that Apple may announce a redesigned iMac at WWDC today, likely being the company’s first ARM Mac however, follow-up reports have said all planned hardware announcements for today’s event have been postponed, so it may simply just be confirmation today that new ARM machines are in the making, with the promise of hearing more later in the year.
