Tom Hanks film ‘Greyhound’ to premiere on Apple TV+
Update: Apple has confirmed that “Greyhound” will be available on Apple TV+ on July 10.
Apple TV+ will exclusively premier “Greyhound,” a new WWII battleship drama starring Tom Hanks, reports Deadline.
The film, written by Hanks and produced by Sony Pictures, was originally set to be released in movie theatres on Father’s Day weekend, but due to the coronavirus pandemic the studio has opened up bids to premier the firm on digital storefronts.
While the report doesn’t mention any names, Deadline claims Apple won the rights to premier the film following a bidding war with other streaming services, with Apple believed to have paid close to $70 million to air the film exclusively on Apple TV+.
In “Greyhound,” Hanks plays the role of George Krause, an officer given command of a Navy destroyer Greyhound during the Battle of the Atlantic. The film is said to show Krause battle fight with his own self doubts and personal demons along with the enemy to prove that he belongs in command.
An official release date for the film hasn’t been shared by Apple.
