Apple replacing some defective Apple Watch Series 2 models with Series 3 replacements
Apple is replacing some defective 38mm aluminum Apple Watch Series 2 models with Series 3 models due to a shortage of parts, according to an internal document distributed to Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers on Monday, reports MacRumors.
The leaked document supposedly instructs technicians to remind customers that the Apple Watch Series 3 requires an iPhone compatible with watchOS 4 or later, and that if a customer has an old device that they should consider an upgrade to resolve the incompatibility, or contact Apple for a refund.
This isn’t the first time Apple has offered upgrades to owners of older Apple Watch models when replacement parts are unavailable. At the beginning of the year Apple began replacing some 42mm first-generation Apple Watch and Apple Watch Series 1 models with the 42mm Apple Watch Series 2.
