Unicode Consortium shares final list of 2019 emoji, including Yawning Face, Otter, Wheelchair, and more
The final list of new emoji coming to iOS in 2019 has been approved by the Unicode Consortium, comprising of 230 new emojis in total including a Yawning Face, Otter, Wheelchair, and more.
According to the consortium, Emoji 12.0 is comprised of 59 distinct new emojis; 75 when gender variations are taken into account; and 230 new emojis when all skin tone options are also included.
The emoji in the Emojipedia images are representations of what the new emoji characters could look like, it is ultimately up to Apple and other smartphone companies to make the final designs based on these initial visuals.
One of the big updates coming with Emoji 12.0 is support for mixed race couples, something currently missing from the latest set of emoji characters. – The new emoji will likely launch alongside iOS 13.1 in late 2019.
