Apple expected to have sold 600,000 HomePod speakers in Q1 2018
Apple is expected to have sold over 600,000 HomePod speakers during the first quarter of 2018 according to estimates shared on Friday by Strategy Analytics, suggesting Apple managed to capture 6 percent of the global smart speaker sales during the period.
The report details how Amazon took 43.6 percent of global smart speaker sales with the Echo accounting to around 4 million shipments, while Google Home had a 26.5 percent market share with 2.4 million world-wide sales.
Apple’s 6 percent market share brought the company to the fourth largest smart speaker brand worldwide, behind Alibaba who had 6 percent of the global smart speaker sales.
According to the latest quarterly research from Strategy Analytics, global smart speaker shipments reached 9.2 million units in Q1 2018. Market leader Amazon is estimated to have shipped an impressive 4 million smart speakers during the quarter though its global market share has nearly halved from the same period last year. – Google and Alibaba consolidated their number two and three rankings while Apple became the fourth largest smart speaker brand worldwide following the launch of the HomePod in February 2018.
