New low-cost LCD iPhone will help Apple recover from ‘lower-than-expected’ iPhone X sales
According to KGI’s Ming-Chi Kuo, dubbed the “best Apple analyst on the planet” by some, a new low-cost 6.1-inch LCD iPhone will be the pump Apple needs to recover from ‘lower-than-expected’ iPhone X sales over the holiday season.
KGI’s report claims Apple will use a rectangular shaped battery in the LCD low-cost iPhone, unlike the two main two OLED models at 5.8-inches and 6.5-inches
Ming-Chi Kuo notes that the “lower-than-expected” iPhone X shipments are mainly due to the high price of the device, making the 6.1-inch LCD model attractive to customers who can’t afford the flagship model. The LCD iPhone is expected to feature the same notch design as the iPhone X, as well as Face ID, but will reportedly lack 3D Touch and a rear dual-camera system.
The Apple Post reported on Monday that Apple was said to of informed suppliers that as of March the company will be cutting iPhone X orders from 40 million units to around 20 million, a multi-billion dollar blow to Apple’s supply chain caused by lower than expected demand for the iPhone X over the holiday season in key markets such as the United States, United Kingdom, China, and across Europe.
The low-cost 6.1-inch iPhone with LCD display will apparently be available in a selection of metal back finishes unlike the iPhone X which is only available in Space Gray or Silver.
