Apple starts $29 out-of-warranty battery replacements immediately
Following news on Thursday that Apple will offer a reduced $29 out-of-warranty battery replacement service available for anyone with an iPhone 6 or later, Apple has made the service available immediately for customers across the world.
The service wasn’t expected to start until late January, however in a statement to TechCrunch today the company said they are happy to offer their customers the lower pricing right away, explaining they over estimated and thought they would need “more time to be ready”.
Apple usually charges $79 for out-of-warranty iPhone battery replacements, however the public backlash from the news that the company deliberately slows older iPhones with degraded batteries to prevent unexpected shutdowns has prompted the price change.
We expected to need more time to be ready, but we are happy to offer our customers the lower pricing right away. Initial supplies of some replacement batteries may be limited.
Apple has said they will be releasing an iOS software update in early 2018 which will bring “new features,” such as letting users see if the condition of their phone’s battery is affecting performance.
