HomePod spotted in the wild ahead of official December launch
Ahead of the official launch of Apple’s Amazon Echo-like AI speaker device which is said to “reinvent home music”, an image posted to Instagram appears to show a HomePod unit out in the wild.
Posted last week, the image shows a white HomePod speaker with accompanying power cord and white inner packaging. With the uploaded based in China, it’s unclear if this is a until that was taken from one of Apple’s manufacturers or if in fact it was given by Apple as a test unit.
The new speaker will use an Apple-designed 4-inch woofer powered by Apple’s A8 chip; the HomePod is cased in a mesh with a display at the top that shows the familiar Siri icon when a user prompts the device. HomePod will be able to play music, read the news, send and receive iMessages, set reminds, listen to Podcasts, provide answers to general questions, check the weather and perform many other tasks.
