Apple releases tvOS 10.1 and watchOS 3.1.1 to coincide with the launch of iOS 10.2
Coinciding with the release of iOS 10.2, Apple has also released tvOS 10.1 and watchOS 3.1.1, two minor releases which are available as a free-over-the-air update for the fourth generation Apple TV and all Apple Watch models.
tvOS 10.1
The main star baked within tvOS 10.1 is Apple’s new TV application which works with various video services plus iTunes movies and TV shows as well as their new SSO (Single Sign-On) feature which lets you authenticate with your cable provider to unlock all compatible paid video apps.
watchOS 3.1.1
Supporting the new Unicode 9.0 emoji which rolled out within iOS 10.2 earlier today, watchOS 3.1.1 allows Apple Watch users to change the skin tones of certain emoji characters when sending them directly from the watch as well as small system performance improvements.
Available as a free-over-the-air update for all iOS 10 users. iOS 10.2 brings an array of 72 new and improved emoji characters as well as bringing a whole host of new features to the iPhone and iPad such as a new ‘Celebration’ iMessage screen effect, Preserve Camera setting, a headphone icon in the status bar for Bluetooth audio devices, an SOS feature similar to the one currently included within watchOS, a swap from the old Videos app to Apple’s new TV application and much more which have been seen within Apple’s seven betas over the past couple of weeks.
How to download iOS 10.2
Don’t panic if you can’t see iOS 10.2 showing on your compatible iPhone or iPad, due to the high volumes of users trying to download the software, things might be a little slower than usual. If you’re near your computer, you can simply connect your device to iTunes and download via the iTunes desktop app however, if you’re going wire-free, simply follow the instructions below…
- Open Settings and click General.
- Tap “Software Update” and wait for iOS 10 to show.
- Once iOS 10.2 is shown as an available update, tap “Download and Install” and follow the on-screen instructions.
