14-inch MacBook Pro with M6: Everything you need to know

Apple has updated the 14-inch MacBook Pro with its new M6 chip, bringing faster CPU, graphics, and AI performance alongside Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, faster storage, and up to 24 hours of battery life.
The M6 model was announced on October 27 and keeps the familiar 14-inch MacBook Pro design, sitting below Apple’s newly redesigned MacBook Pro models with M5 Pro and M5 Max. The Apple Post covered the M6 launch here.
Here is everything you need to know about the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6, including performance, display, battery life, ports, memory, pricing, and how it differs from Apple’s higher-end MacBook Pro lineup.
M6 brings a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU
The new M6 chip combines a 12-core CPU with a 12-core GPU, giving both parts of the chip two additional cores compared with the previous M5 generation.
Apple says graphics performance can be up to 30 percent faster than M5, while on-device AI workloads can be up to 25 percent faster. The Dual 16-core Neural Engine can deliver up to 1.9x faster performance than M5, while Neural Accelerators are built into every GPU core.
For users upgrading from an older Apple silicon Mac, the gains are larger. Apple claims up to 11x faster graphics and up to 13x faster AI performance than the original M1 MacBook Pro in selected workloads. We have a closer look at the M1-to-M6 performance jump here.
Compared directly with M5, Apple says the new machine can be up to 1.3x faster for ray-traced rendering in Blender and Xcode project builds. The Apple Post has more on the M6 versus M5 improvements here.
16GB memory is standard, with up to 32GB available
The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 starts with 16GB of unified memory and can be configured with up to 32GB.
Memory bandwidth increases to as much as 170GB/s, helping the CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine move data more quickly during demanding creative, development, and AI workloads. Here is a closer look at the M6 MacBook Pro’s memory options.
Liquid Retina XDR display remains
Unlike Apple’s new higher-end MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display, the M6 model keeps the established 14-inch Liquid Retina XDR display.
The panel reaches up to 1,600 nits of peak HDR brightness, has a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and is available with an optional nano-texture finish for reducing glare in bright environments.
This is one of the most important distinctions in Apple’s current MacBook Pro lineup. The M6 model does not include the new Touch experience, Dynamic Island, or tandem OLED PROLED XDR display introduced on the M5 Pro and M5 Max models. You can see everything Apple changed on the redesigned higher-end MacBook Pro here.
Up to 24 hours of battery life
Apple rates the M6 MacBook Pro for up to 24 hours of battery life, which it describes as the longest battery life ever offered in a Mac.
For users upgrading from an M1 system, Apple says that can mean up to four additional hours. Intel-based upgraders can gain as much as 14 hours compared with older models. We have more on the 24-hour battery claim here.
Fast charging is also supported. With a compatible higher-wattage USB-C adapter, including Apple’s 96W Power Adapter, the battery can reach around 50 percent in 30 minutes. Here is how fast charging works on the M6 model.
Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6
Wireless connectivity has been updated to Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, bringing faster throughput and lower latency with compatible networks and accessories.
The M6 MacBook Pro keeps three Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, MagSafe 3, an SDXC card slot, and a headphone jack. It can drive up to two external displays. The Apple Post has a full breakdown of the ports and connectivity here.
Camera, microphones, and speakers
The 12MP Center Stage camera remains, with Desk View available for showing a top-down view of the area in front of the Mac during calls.
Apple also retains the studio-quality three-microphone array and six-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio, keeping the M6 model’s multimedia hardware broadly familiar.
macOS 27 and Siri AI
The new MacBook Pro ships with macOS 27 Golden Gate, including Apple Intelligence and Siri AI in supported languages and regions.
Siri AI can use personal context, understand onscreen content, answer broader questions, and take actions across apps. Apple Intelligence also adds features throughout Safari, Photos, Shortcuts, and other system apps.
Space black and silver
The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 is available in space black and silver. The physical chassis is largely unchanged from the previous-generation model, making this primarily a performance, efficiency, and connectivity refresh rather than a redesign.
M6 MacBook Pro price and release date
The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 starts at $1,999 in the United States and £1,999 in the United Kingdom. Education pricing starts at $1,899 in the US and £1,899 in the UK.
Preorders opened on October 28, with the new model arriving to customers, Apple Stores, and Apple Authorized Resellers from Friday, November 6. Full pricing and release details are available here.
Who should buy the M6 MacBook Pro?
The M6 MacBook Pro makes the most sense for buyers who want MacBook Pro performance, battery life, ports, and the Liquid Retina XDR display without paying for Apple’s much more expensive redesigned M5 Pro or M5 Max models.
It is a particularly substantial upgrade for Intel and M1 owners, while M5 users are likely to see a smaller year-over-year improvement. Buyers who specifically want Touch, Dynamic Island, tandem OLED, Thunderbolt 5, or much higher memory and storage ceilings will need to look at the new PROLED XDR models instead.
