Apple’s touchscreen MacBook Pro could finally be unveiled on October 28

Apple’s long-rumored touchscreen MacBook Pro could finally be days away from becoming official, with the company’s October 28 “Pro and tell” event expected to put the redesigned notebook front and center.
Apple has confirmed a special event for October 28, and current reporting points to the first touchscreen MacBook Pro as the headline announcement.
The high-end 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models are expected to move to OLED displays and add direct touch input, marking a major break from Apple’s long-standing approach of keeping touch interaction on iPhone and iPad.
The redesign is also expected to make the notebooks lighter and replace the current display notch with a Dynamic Island-style cutout. The Apple Post recently looked at why the touchscreen MacBook could be one of Apple’s most significant Mac changes in years.
Apple has also been laying software groundwork for direct touch interaction. Recent macOS 27.2 changes have added more touch-like interface behavior, strengthening expectations that Apple is preparing macOS for a touchscreen MacBook.
The redesigned models are currently expected to use M5 Pro and M5 Max chips rather than M6 Pro and M6 Max, while a separate 14-inch MacBook Pro with the standard M6 chip is also expected at the same event. That could leave Apple launching two very different MacBook Pro updates side by side.
Recent reporting has also pointed to a possible November 6 retail launch. Apple Stores are reportedly preparing for a major floor reset around that date, although Apple has not confirmed when the new MacBook Pro will actually go on sale.
If the reports are accurate, October 28 could mark the moment Apple finally reverses one of its longest-held Mac design decisions and brings touch directly to the MacBook display.
