Apple reportedly planning new home security and monitoring service for 2027

Apple is reportedly preparing to make a much bigger move into home security, with plans for a new monitoring service designed to work alongside its growing lineup of smart home hardware.

As reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is working on a home security and monitoring service targeted for 2027, potentially giving the company a more direct role in protecting users’ homes rather than simply providing the Home platform that connects third-party accessories.

The move would fit into Apple’s rapidly expanding smart home plans. The Apple Post recently reported that several new Home products could feature in Apple’s upcoming hardware lineup, including a smart home display, updated Apple TV 4K and second-generation HomePod mini.

Apple has also been linked to its own security camera, which could give the company dedicated hardware around which to build a broader monitoring service. References to an unreleased Home accessory believed to be a camera have previously appeared in Apple software, alongside evidence of several other products being developed for the home.

Previous software discoveries have pointed to an Apple home accessory equipped with multiple sensors and the ability to capture images, potentially laying the groundwork for Apple’s own security camera.

According to the report, the monitoring service is part of a wider push Apple is planning for 2027. Details about pricing and exactly how professional monitoring would operate remain unclear, but a subscription-based security offering would give Apple another recurring service tied closely to its hardware ecosystem.

The company already provides HomeKit Secure Video, allowing supported cameras to use iCloud for encrypted recording and features such as activity detection. iOS 27 expands Apple’s camera capabilities further, with Apple Intelligence able to generate descriptions of security footage, improve natural-language searching and group related smart home alerts.

The Apple Post has detailed the smarter Home camera features arriving with iOS 27, including support for 4K HomeKit Secure Video on compatible cameras.

Apple’s rumored HomePad could also become an important part of the security system. The device is expected to act as a central controller for accessories around the home while displaying camera feeds, notifications and other information on a dedicated screen.

Apple’s smart home hub is reportedly being prepared for launch between October and early 2027, with wall-mounted and desktop versions said to be in development.

If Apple combines its own cameras, HomePad hardware, Apple Intelligence and a monitoring subscription, the company could ultimately offer a much more complete alternative to established home security ecosystems while keeping security footage and controls tightly integrated with iPhone, Apple Watch and the Home app.
