Apple’s parental controls in iOS 27 can help parents manage who their children communicate with across Messages, FaceTime and Phone, including requiring approval before a child connects with somebody new.
When approval is required, children can send a request to their parent before communicating with a new contact. This gives parents another layer of control without preventing children from asking to add people they know.
The feature works alongside Apple’s other family and communication controls, allowing parents to tailor communication access based on their child’s age and needs.
How to approve a new contact for your child in iOS 27
- Make sure your child’s Apple Account is configured as a Child Account in your family group.
- Open Settings and go to your child’s parental controls.
- Open the controls for communication and enable approval for new contacts.
- When your child wants to communicate with somebody new, they can send an approval request.
- Open the request on your device and review the new contact.
- Approve the request if you are happy for your child to communicate with that person.
Parents remain in control of their child’s communication settings and can change the restrictions later as needed.
