iOS 27 is nearly here with major new features coming to iPhone

Apple is now just days away from its biggest software launch of the year, with iOS 27 expected to be released to iPhone users later this month.

First unveiled at WWDC26 in June, iOS 27 has spent the summer in beta testing and is now approaching its final release. Apple recently seeded iOS 27 beta 7 as testing enters its final stages ahead of the public launch.

One of the biggest additions is the next generation of Siri and Apple Intelligence. Siri AI introduces more natural conversations, improved understanding of personal context, on-screen awareness and deeper control across apps. On supported iPhone models, Siri also moves into the Dynamic Island with a redesigned animation and a new gesture that lets users swipe down to begin typing a request.

Apple Intelligence is expanding throughout iOS too, with new features across Photos, Safari, Mail, Messages, Phone, Passwords, Shortcuts and Home. Visual Intelligence is becoming more capable, while Photos gains tools including Spatial Reframing and Extend for editing and expanding images.

Beyond AI, iOS 27 brings further refinements to Apple’s Liquid Glass design, including additional customization options for transparency and tinting. Apple has also focused heavily on performance, with improvements designed to make app launches, Photos, AirDrop and general navigation around the operating system feel faster.

There are plenty of smaller changes too. As The Apple Post previously reported, iOS 27 includes hundreds of refinements across Messages, Maps, Photos, Health, Fitness, Notes, Mail, Apple Music, Shortcuts, Spotlight and other parts of the iPhone experience.

AirPods users will also gain Custom EQ controls for manually adjusting bass, mids and treble, while Maps receives enhanced Flyover imagery, improved Visited Places, natural-language route searching and other upgrades.

Apple made the iOS 27 public beta available in July, giving users an opportunity to test the software ahead of its official release. With September now underway, however, the wait for the finished version is almost over.

Apple is expected to release the iOS 27 Release Candidate following its September event, with the public version arriving shortly afterwards as a free software update for compatible iPhone models.
