Samsung launches Galaxy Card to take on Apple Card

Samsung has announced its first-ever branded credit card, the Samsung Galaxy Card, offering cash rewards, financing options, and deep integration with Samsung Wallet in a move that positions it as a direct competitor to Apple’s Apple Card.
Issued by Barclays US Consumer Bank on the Visa network, the Samsung Galaxy Card is available as both a virtual card and a premium metal physical card. Applications open to the general public on July 22, following an early access period for eligible customers.
The new credit card offers 5% cash back on eligible purchases made directly through Samsung, 3% on purchases made using Samsung Wallet, 2% on select streaming services including Netflix, Disney+, and Spotify, and 1% on all other purchases. Cardholders will also receive discounts on Samsung’s VIP Advantage membership program.
Like Apple Card, Samsung’s offering is closely integrated with its own ecosystem. The card can be stored in Samsung Wallet alongside payment cards, digital IDs, passes, keys, and other credentials, with Samsung highlighting the security benefits provided by its Knox platform.
The launch draws inevitable comparisons with Apple Card, which Apple introduced in 2019 in partnership with Goldman Sachs before announcing a new partnership with Synchrony Financial earlier this year. Apple’s credit card is deeply integrated with the Wallet app on iPhone, offering Daily Cash rewards, spending insights, and a privacy-focused experience designed around Apple devices.
Samsung says Galaxy Card is designed to reward customers who are already invested in its ecosystem, particularly those purchasing Galaxy smartphones, tablets, wearables, and other Samsung products.
