Apple unveils iPhone 17 with new front camera and bigger display

Apple has announced the iPhone 17, introducing a new front-facing camera, larger display and faster chip.
The device features a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR screen with ProMotion, offering smoother scrolling and up to 3,000 nits of outdoor brightness — the highest yet on an iPhone. A tougher Ceramic Shield front cover provides three times more scratch resistance than the previous generation.
For the first time, the front camera supports “Center Stage”, expanding its field of view to capture wider selfies and group shots. It also enables ultra-stabilised 4K video and simultaneous recording with the rear cameras.
On the back, Apple has fitted three 48MP sensors: a main camera with a 2x telephoto option, and a new ultra wide that captures four times more detail than before.
The iPhone 17 is powered by the new A19 chip, built on 3-nanometre technology, which Apple says delivers faster CPU, GPU and on-device AI performance.
Battery life has been extended to up to 30 hours of video playback, with fast charging capable of reaching 50% in 20 minutes using a higher-wattage USB-C adapter.
The iPhone 17 launches with 256GB of storage as standard, double the previous entry level, and is also available with 512GB.
It comes in five colours: black, lavender, mist blue, sage and white.
Support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 is built in, along with eSIM, which is now the only option in several markets including the US, Canada and the UK.
The device ships with iOS 26, which introduces a redesigned look, Apple Intelligence features such as Live Translation, and new tools for calls, messages and apps including Maps, Music and CarPlay.
Pre-orders open on Friday, September 12, with the iPhone 17 available from Friday, September 19.
