Apple has announced that with iOS 18, users will be able to create and send custom emoji in Messages using AI with Genmoji — an emoji creation tool that allows users to type a description of an emoji, and the device will create a custom Genmoji based on the user’s input.
Users can even create Genmoji of friends and family based on their photos. Just like emoji, Genmoji will be added inline to messages, or shared as a sticker or reaction in a Tapback.
When sending an iMessage, users can describe an emoji, and iOS 18 will create a custom emoji based on what the user described. This will allow users to go beyond the limits of the default iOS emoji options and create personalized characters based on a user’s input.
Genmoji is one of many new features coming to Messages with iOS 18. Beginning later this year with the release of iOS 18, all-new text effects will allow users to amplify any letter, word, phrase, or emoji with dynamic, animated appearances in messages, and users will be able to better express tone by adding formatting like bold, underline, italics, and strikethrough.
Tapbacks expand to include any emoji or sticker, and with iOS 18 users will be able to compose a message and schedule to send it at a later time.
