Apple is widely rumored to be integrating a host of new AI capabilities into iOS 18, with Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reporting that one notable feature in development is AI-generated emojis. These new emojis will be created “on the fly” based on what users are typing.
In his weekly Power On newsletter, Gurman highlights this as a “standout feature.” He explains that users will gain access to an entirely new range of emojis created by artificial intelligence, far beyond the current catalog available on iPhones and other Apple devices.
Gurman also reports that Apple is developing a feature that will allow users to change the appearance of their app icons, providing the ability to recolor them. For instance, users could set all their social media apps to green and all their gaming apps to orange, offering a more personalized and visually organized Home Screen.
In addition to custom emoji, iOS 18 is expected to introduce a wave of new AI features to the iPhone. Gurman has previously claimed that Apple is reportedly nearing a deal with OpenAI to use its AI technology in iOS 18, with it said that the iPhone maker is reportedly pushing to “add AI to as many apps as possible,” with the company exploring new AI features for Apple Music, including auto-generated playlists, plus the use of AI in productivity apps, like Pages and Keynote.
