Here’s what Apple will likely announce on April 20

Apple announced on Tuesday that it will host a “Spring Loaded” special event online on April 20th from the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park, which is when the iPhone maker is expected to launch several new products, most of which have been rumored for several months.

Spring is typically when Apple releases its first new products of the year, with 2021 set to be no exception.

Here’s what Apple will likely announce on April 20

Based on recent leaks, rumors, and reports, here’s what we will likely see announced at Apple’s “Spring Loaded” special event…

Updated iPad Pro & iPad mini

Apple is expected to introduce three new iPads during the event – two updated iPad Pros and an updated iPad mini.

The new models, shown above in dummies shared last week by leaker Sonny Dickson, are expected to be relatively minor updates compared to the current-generation devices, with the iPad mini likely getting updated internals and battery life improvements while retaining its thick top and bottom bezels and Touch ID Home button.

Apple’s larger 12.9-inch iPad Pro is rumored to be getting an all-new mini-LED display in this iteration, offering the same quality as OLED but with less power consumption. Both Pro devices have been rumored to feature a new “A14X” processor, outed in leaks last month, as well as possibly getting a Thunderbolt connector, which would make the device more compatible with external monitors and hard drives, as well as offering faster data syncing speeds, and more.

We may also see Apple introduce an updated Apple Pencil alongside the updated iPad Pro, as well as new colorful accessories for spring.

Redesigned iMac

2021 is expected to see Apple give the iMac its first major design update since 2012, with leaker Jon Prosser sharing renders based on information he’s obtained that suggest the new machines, likely to be unveiled at the forthcoming event, will boast smaller bezels and the removal of the metal “chin area” at the front, giving the all-in-one a similar look to the high-end Pro Display XDR.

According to Prosser, the machines will come in the same five colors as the fourth-generation iPad Air, suggesting we will see Silver, Space Gray, Green, Sky Blue, and Rose Gold color options, similar to the colors used in Apple’s event invite artwork.

The new iMac will undoubtedly feature Apple’s M-series processors as the company continues the transition away from Intel. Last month, macOS Big Sur 11.3 beta 5 was found to reference two unreleased iMacs, and earlier than that, Xcode’s Crash Reporter feature seemingly outed a new, unreleased ARM-based iMac, adding further fuel to the speculation that a new model was imminent.

AirTags

AirTags have been rumored for almost two years. The Tile-like item trackers are expected to attach to valuables such as wallets, backpacks, keys, and more, allowing users to track their belongings in the Find My app on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, that will notify users as soon as they become separated from their valuables, with the exception of when items have been left behind at a pre-defined  “Safe Location”, such as at the user’s home or workplace.

We’ve seen AirTags shown in a leaked pairing video, with Jon Prosser claiming the devices will be “just a tad larger than a bottle cap,” with Apple set to offer a “keychain that has a little leather pouch on it that you can just slip your AirTag into.”

Apple opened its Find My network to third-party accessory makers last week, allowing MFi (Made for iPhone) licensees to integrate the Find My technology into their products so that customers can locate their belongings with the Apple Find My infrastructure, using the Find My app on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Many have suggested this was the final step before AirTags finally make their public debut.

Accessories

As it does each year, Apple is expected to soon introduce new spring colors to its line of iPhone accessories. Rumors are pointing to five new colors being introduced, with leaks on Monday offering a full-on look at Apple’s new MagSafe cases for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro.

The new case colors will be called Pistachio, Capri Blue, Cantaloupe, and Amethyst, claims the leaker, with Apple likely launching color-matching Apple Watch accessories too.

Apple may finally give the Apple TV some love this month with an updated version of the set-top-box.

Code Apple’s tvOS beta has referenced “120Hz and “supports120Hz,” which is not something the current model can do, with it understood now that the updated model will use HDMI 2.1., which unlike HDMI 2.0, used for the current fifth-generation ‌Apple TV‌ 4K, is not limited to 4K resolution at 60Hz.

AirTags

Despite earlier rumors, it seems unlikely we will see Apple introduce any new AirPods at the upcoming “Spring Loaded” special event.

Earlier in the year, several leaks claimed we could see new AirPods arriving in March, with the earbuds set to get a redesign to bring them in line with the style of the AirPods Pro however, since then, sources have reported that “AirPods 3” won’t be arriving until later in the year, claiming mass production isn’t scheduled until the third-quarter of 2021.
