‘A14X’ chip rumored for new iPad Pro referenced in iOS code
iOS 14.5, which received its fifth developer beta update on Tuesday, includes references to a new “A14X” chip, expected to be used in Apple’s rumored new iPad Pro, which could arrive in the coming weeks.
As spotted by Filipe Espósito of 9to5Mac, iOS 14.5 code includes references to a GPU from a chip called “13G,” which is not used by any iOS device to date.
Apple’s next iPad Pro isn’t expected to be a major update compared to the current-generation model, with earlier alleged CAD images suggesting the device will have few external design changes, with the “A14X” chip and new mini-LED display technology expected to be the flagship features in this iteration.
Today, Tuesday, March 23, was when Apple was initially rumored to be announcing the new iPad Pro alongside its long-awaited AirTags and a possible Apple TV update however, recent rumors point to Apple planning on previewing its new hardware in April, where the company will likely stream a pre-recorded event from Apple Park.
