2021 iPad Pro with mini-LED display not expected to ship before April, reports DigiTimes
In a new report on Tuesday, DigiTimes has claimed that Apple’s new 12.9-inch iPad Pro with mini-LED display is not expected to ship before April, despite previous suggestions of a March release.
The news comes as serial leaker Jon Prosser tweeted that Apple’s rumored March event will now take place in April, where the company is expected to announce its updated iPad Pro alongside AirTags and a possible update to the Apple TV.
Apple has long been rumored to be bringing mini-LED displays to the iPad Pro, offering the same quality as OLED but with less power consumption. DigiTimes reports that Taiwanese supplier Epistar will exclusively supply miniLED chips for the upcoming 12.9-inch iPad model, which won’t ship until the second quarter of 2021.
Epistar has become the exclusive supplier of miniLED chips to be used in 12.9-inch miniLED-backlit iPad Pro, with nearly 50% of the corresponding production capacity booked up for the tablet and volume shipments to begin in the second quarter of 2021, the sources said.
Previous reports have pointed to the new mini-LED display being one of, if not the only, flagship feature on the 2021 iPad Pro, with alledged leaked CAD renders pointing to the overall look of the new model remaining the same as the current device.
