Apple releasing next-gen Apple TV with gaming focus in 2021, launching with updated remote
Apple is rumored to be finalizing a next-generation Apple TV with a stronger gaming focus, an updated remote, and a new processor for launch next year, according to a report from Bloomberg.
The long-overdue Apple TV upgrade will be the first new set-top box from Apple since 2017 when the company released the fifth-generation Apple TV in September 2017.
Within a new report highlighting how Apple is lagging behind its competitors with the Apple TV, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman claims “For next year, Apple is planning an upgraded box with a stronger gaming focus, an updated remote and a new processor.”
This is not the first time we have heard reports of a new set-top box from Apple. Earlier this year it was reported that Apple’s next Apple TV will launch alongside an upgraded remote that works with the Find My app on iPhone, iPad, and Mac to allow users to easily locate their remote in the event that it is misplaced around the house, and code uncovered from an iOS beta referenced upgraded internals for an improved gaming experience, confirming a new box was in development.
Rumors have suggested the new Apple TV will feature an A12X chip and both 64GB and 128GB storage configurations, scrapping the current 32GB model, likely so that users have more storage capacity to download and play Apple Arcade games.
