macOS Big Sur brings back iconic Mac startup chime

Apple is bringing back the iconic Mac startup chime with macOS Big Sur after it was removed from the MacBook lineup in 2016.
Discovered by developers running the macOS Big Sur beta released yesterday, users will hear the classic Mac chime when powering on their Mac, with a new option in System Preferences to enable or disable the “Play sound on startup” option.
Apple first teased the return of the chime during its WWDC 2020 keynote. While the feature wasn’t officially announced, viewers noticed the chime was present at the beginning of the macOS Big Sur segment that saw Apple announce an all-new design, the biggest Safari update ever, improvements to Maps and Messages, and much more.
Additionally, the update adds the iOS charging sound to the Mac for when it is plugged in to power.
