Low iPad Pro availability hints at imminent March refresh

Apple is running low on select iPad Pro models at retail stores across in the U.S., Australia and across Europe, hinting that we may see updated models arriving in March as rumored.

Noted by Boomberg‘s Mark Gurman, the 512GB non-cellular 12.9-inch ‌iPad Pro is sold out at all Apple stores in the Los Angeles area. That model and other versions are sold out at many stores in New York City as well.

Gurman claims Apple employees saw the low inventory starting last week.

Some Apple store employees said they started noticing reduced ‌iPad Pro‌ inventory in the last week. They asked not to be identified discussing private product information.

Low inventory is usually an indication that a new model is being prepared to launch however, there is some uncertainty as to whether the stock shortages are a result of delayed production caused by Chinese factory closures.

We’ve seen many reports which suggest an all-new iPad Pro is in development with an iPhone 11 Pro-style rear triple-camera system, possibly in a new 12-inch screen size.

The new iPad Pro is said to support 5G cellular, making it Apple’s first 5G product ahead of September when the company is expected to debut a full range of 5G iPhone models.

Rumors had suggested we may see an Apple event at the end of March however, it is likely now that due to coronavirus fears the event won’t go-ahead as scheduled. Instead, Apple may choose to simply launch the products via a press release, or by live streaming the announcements on Apple.com.
