Apple extends holiday returns through January 8 for U.S. shoppers

Breaking News Apple has extended its holiday return window in the United States, giving customers until January 8, 2027 to return eligible purchases made during the Christmas shopping season. The extra time means people can buy an iPhone, Mac, iPad or other qualifying Apple product well before Christmas without the usual 14-day return deadline expiring before the gift is opened.
Under Apple’s updated U.S. returns policy, eligible products received from the Apple Store Online between November 6 and December 25, 2026 can be returned through January 8, 2027. The date an online order is received matters, so shoppers should check the delivery date rather than relying only on when they placed the order.
The change gives gift recipients time to try out a new device after Christmas and decide whether it is right for them. Products purchased after December 25 fall under Apple’s standard return policy, which ordinarily allows 14 calendar days from receipt for eligible items.
There are some important exceptions. iPhones purchased using carrier financing through T-Mobile or Verizon do not qualify for the extended deadline, and neither do iPads financed through Verizon. Those purchases remain subject to the standard return window, even when they arrive during the holiday period.
Apple Gift Cards, electronic software downloads and Apple Developer products are also excluded from standard returns, while opened software is subject to restrictions. Customers returning eligible hardware should keep the receipt or order details, along with the product’s included accessories and packaging. Returning an iPhone or cellular iPad does not automatically cancel a separate wireless service agreement.
For customers in the United Kingdom, Apple’s U.K. returns information does not currently set out a matching 2026 holiday extension. Its published standard policy remains 14 days for eligible purchases, so U.K. shoppers should not assume the January 8 U.S. deadline applies to them. Any separate regional holiday terms should be checked before buying.
The extended U.S. window applies to purchases made directly from Apple, not automatically to products bought from Amazon, Best Buy or other retailers. Anyone shopping elsewhere should check that retailer’s holiday return policy. Apple customers can usually begin an online return through their order history or bring an eligible item to an Apple Store in the country where it was purchased.
The timing coincides with five new Mac and iPad products arriving on November 6, giving early holiday shoppers more flexibility with some of Apple’s newest hardware. Apple has also warned that Mac and iPad supply may remain constrained through the holiday quarter, making delivery estimates worth checking alongside return eligibility.
