Apple has unveiled a new 24-inch iMac powered by the M6 chip, bringing a major performance upgrade, faster on-device AI, new connectivity options and seven color choices to its all-in-one desktop.
The new iMac uses Apple’s 2-nanometer M6 chip with up to a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU, plus Neural Accelerators in every GPU core and a Dual 16-core Neural Engine. Apple says the machine delivers up to 5x faster on-device AI performance than the M4 iMac and up to 18x faster overall performance than the most popular Intel-based iMac.
The update also adds Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, optional 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet, up to twice the SSD read and write performance, and support for up to two 6K external displays through as many as four Thunderbolt 4 ports.
The 24-inch 4.5K Retina display, 12MP Center Stage camera, six-speaker audio system, three-microphone array and color-matched accessories remain part of the package. The new iMac is available in blue, green, pink, yellow, purple, orange and silver.
Apple is taking preorders from Wednesday, October 28, with availability beginning Friday, November 6. The M6 iMac starts at $1,499 in the United States for the 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU configuration, while the 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU model starts at $1,699.
The announcement confirms The Apple Post’s earlier report that an M6 iMac was expected this week. Apple detailed the new model in its official Newsroom announcement.
