New iPad mini reportedly moving FaceTime camera and redesigning speakers

Apple’s redesigned iPad mini is reportedly set to relocate its FaceTime camera and introduce a revamped speaker system as part of a wider overhaul expected later this month.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the upcoming iPad mini will move the FaceTime camera from its current position while also receiving redesigned audio hardware.
The two changes sit alongside the much larger upgrades already expected for the device, including an OLED display and A20 Pro chip.
iPad mini is getting more than an OLED screen
Recent leaked Apple imagery has pointed to the front-facing camera moving to the landscape edge of the iPad mini, bringing the smaller tablet into line with Apple’s other recent iPads and placing the camera in a more natural position for video calls when the device is held horizontally.
The speaker redesign is also expected to form part of changes aimed at improving the iPad mini’s physical design. Earlier reporting has linked the next model to improved water resistance and a different approach to its speaker openings.
The Apple Post previously reported on the broader OLED iPad mini redesign, which is shaping up to be considerably more substantial than a simple processor refresh.
Bloomberg now expects the tablet to use the A20 Pro chip, while Gurman says the new model could also be considerably more expensive than the current generation, potentially approaching a $799 starting price in the United States.
The redesigned iPad mini is expected to be introduced later in October, separate from Apple’s October 13 smart home-focused “Welcome home” launch.
