When will iPhone 18 launch? Apple’s spring event history points to March or April 2027

Apple is widely expected to launch the standard iPhone 18 in spring 2027, but “spring” leaves a fairly large window. Looking back at Apple’s previous spring events gives us a better idea of when the company could choose to unveil it.

March currently looks particularly plausible, with April another realistic possibility. Apple has not announced an event or a release date, so any exact date at this stage would be speculation.

What makes 2027 unusual is the scale of the expected launch. iPhone 18 is rumored to arrive alongside iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2, turning what has historically been a quieter period for iPhone into a second major annual launch window.

March has plenty of iPhone precedent

Apple’s “Peek performance” event took place on Tuesday, March 8, 2022. It introduced the third-generation iPhone SE alongside iPad Air, Mac Studio and Studio Display, making March a proven month for genuinely new iPhone hardware.

Apple also used that event to refresh its flagship iPhone lineup mid-cycle. The Apple Post reported live from the event when Apple unveiled Green iPhone 13 and Alpine Green iPhone 13 Pro.

Apple announced those colors on March 8, opened preorders on Friday, March 11 and began availability on Friday, March 18. Apple also immediately began promoting the new green finishes through its marketing channels.

That was not the first time Apple had used spring to give iPhone fresh attention. At its April 20, 2021 “Spring Loaded” event, Apple introduced a purple iPhone 12 alongside AirTag, new iMac hardware and iPad Pro.

Apple’s previous spring event dates

Apple’s spring events have frequently fallen in March or April. “Spring Forward” was held March 9, 2015, “Let us loop you in” on March 21, 2016, the education-focused “Let’s take a field trip” event on March 27, 2018, and the services-focused “It’s show time” presentation on March 25, 2019.

Apple moved into April for “Spring Loaded” on April 20, 2021, while “Peek performance” returned to March on March 8, 2022. More recently, Apple held its “Let Loose” iPad event on May 7, 2024, showing that spring announcements are not restricted to March and April.

Apple does not hold a spring event every year. It has frequently introduced spring hardware through press releases instead, so an iPhone 18 launch does not guarantee a keynote.

Could iPhone 18 launch in March 2027?

March is a sensible working assumption, but not a confirmed date. Supply-chain comments reported earlier this year pointed to a major smartphone model moving into the first quarter of 2027. If that model is iPhone 18, the first-quarter wording would narrow the window to January through March.

The Apple Post has previously detailed why Apple is expected to hold iPhone 18 until spring. The reported strategy separates the company’s premium fall lineup from iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2.

March would also give Apple roughly six months between the September 2026 premium launch and its mainstream iPhone refresh, creating two relatively even sales cycles.

What date could an Apple spring 2027 event be?

There is not enough information to responsibly name a particular Tuesday in March or April. Apple’s history shows that it favors weekday events and has repeatedly used Tuesdays, but it has also held spring events on Mondays and Wednesdays.

The 2022 pattern is nevertheless useful. Apple announced its event-era iPhones on March 8, opened orders three days later and began sales one week after that. A similar cadence in 2027 would put iPhone 18 in customers’ hands around a week and a half after its announcement.

Will Apple actually hold an event?

Three new iPhones would give Apple a stronger reason to hold a spring keynote than a routine processor refresh would. The standard iPhone 18 is a major part of Apple’s lineup, and explaining the company’s new split-release strategy could warrant stage time.

But Apple has become increasingly comfortable announcing products through its Newsroom, so a week of press releases or a prerecorded product presentation remains possible.

For now, the safest expectation is spring 2027, with March looking like the most interesting month to watch. An exact date, event format and preorder schedule remain unknown until Apple makes them official.
