Apple’s iPhone lineup could look very different in spring 2027, with the standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2 all rumored to launch within the same period.
It would be an unusual move for Apple, which has historically reserved the fall for its main iPhone refresh and used occasional spring launches for lower-cost models or mid-cycle updates. But the company has already broken with tradition by launching iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone Duo without a standard iPhone 18 alongside them.
Nothing about the spring lineup has been announced by Apple, and many of the specifications circulating online remain speculation rather than established reporting. Still, multiple reports now point to the same broad strategy: Apple’s premium iPhones in the fall, followed by its more mainstream models in spring.
iPhone 18
The standard iPhone 18 is expected to be the centerpiece of the spring lineup. The Apple Post has been following Apple’s expected split iPhone release schedule, with the regular model held back several months after iPhone 18 Pro.
Reports point to a 6.3-inch display, Apple’s A20 chip and a smaller Dynamic Island. The phone is also rumored to gain more memory and Apple’s second-generation C2 cellular modem, although exact configurations remain unclear.
The rear camera system is expected to retain two lenses. Online graphics have suggested dual 48-megapixel cameras, but that level of detail should be treated as speculation until stronger supply-chain reporting emerges.
There have also been claims that Apple is looking for ways to lower production costs. One report suggested iPhone 18 could share more manufacturing processes and components with iPhone 18e.
iPhone 18e
iPhone 18e is expected to become Apple’s lower-cost entry into the 18 generation, following the same broad idea as iPhone 16e and iPhone 17e.
Current rumors point to a 6.1-inch display, Face ID, a single 48-megapixel rear camera and the A20 chip. A Dynamic Island has also been rumored, although Apple has not confirmed the device or its design.
The model could be particularly important if Apple keeps its new split schedule. Rather than arriving as a solitary lower-cost iPhone refresh, iPhone 18e would launch alongside two more expensive mainstream models and give Apple a three-step spring lineup.
iPhone Air 2
iPhone Air 2 may receive the biggest practical changes of the three. The Apple Post previously reported that Apple is exploring a second rear camera for the ultra-thin iPhone, potentially addressing one of the biggest compromises of the first generation.
The second camera is widely expected to be an Ultra Wide alongside a 48-megapixel Main camera. Reports have also pointed toward better battery life and an A20 Pro chip while retaining the Air’s thin-and-light focus.
Alleged packaging for iPhone Air 2 has already appeared online, showing what looks like two horizontally arranged rear cameras. Those images remain unverified and could represent prototype packaging or fabrication.
What about the rumored specifications?
A graphic circulating online lists specific RAM amounts, battery capacities, thickness measurements and prices for all three phones. Those numbers should not be treated as confirmed specifications.
The broader claims — three spring models, A20-generation chips and a second camera for iPhone Air 2 — have appeared in wider reporting. Precise figures such as 9GB of RAM in iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e, 12GB in Air 2, batteries above specific capacities and exact $599-to-$1,099 price ranges are much less certain this far from launch.
The same caution applies to Apple’s C2 modem. It is a plausible upgrade across the lineup, but modem configurations can vary by market and Apple has not announced C2 for these devices.
When could Apple launch them?
Spring 2027 is the consistent window, with some supply-chain evidence pointing specifically toward the first quarter. That makes March a particularly interesting possibility, although April cannot be ruled out and Apple has announced nothing.
Apple has precedent for using March to introduce iPhone hardware. At its “Peek performance” event on March 8, 2022, Apple unveiled iPhone SE alongside new Green iPhone 13 and Alpine Green iPhone 13 Pro finishes. The phones went up for preorder March 11 and reached stores March 18.
If Apple does bring three iPhones together next spring, it would be much more substantial than those previous mid-cycle launches. It would effectively give the company two distinct iPhone seasons each year: premium models in September and mainstream models in spring.
