Siri AI device compatibility: Which iPhones get Apple’s new Siri?

Siri AI is one of the biggest additions in iOS 27, but installing Apple’s latest software update does not necessarily mean your iPhone will get the new Siri experience.

While iOS 27 supports iPhone 11 and newer, Apple says Siri AI and the latest generation of Apple Intelligence require considerably newer hardware.

On iPhone, Apple lists Siri AI and the new Apple Intelligence features as compatible with iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, every iPhone 16 model and later devices. That means standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models can install iOS 27 but do not support Siri AI.

iPhones that support Siri AI

Apple’s requirement starts with the A17 Pro-equipped iPhone 15 Pro generation and extends to newer supported models. The important distinction is that iOS 27 compatibility and Siri AI compatibility are two different things.

An iPhone 11, iPhone 12, iPhone 13 or iPhone 14 can still receive iOS 27 and many of its new features, but those devices do not gain the full new Apple Intelligence and Siri AI experience.

This split is particularly notable because iOS 27 continues support all the way back to the iPhone 11, extending major software support for devices released years before Apple Intelligence hardware arrived.

What Siri AI adds

On a supported iPhone, Siri AI can draw on personal context across messages, emails, photos and other information, understand what is currently displayed on screen, answer questions using current information from the web and perform more actions across apps.

Apple has also created a dedicated Siri app where users can revisit previous conversations and begin new ones, with conversational history privately synchronized across supported devices through iCloud.

Other Siri AI capabilities include expanded Visual Intelligence, integrated writing tools and Siri mode in Camera. Apple says the assistant uses a combination of on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute.

Hardware isn’t the only restriction

Owning a compatible iPhone still does not guarantee access everywhere. Siri AI launches as a beta for supported devices set to English, with Apple expanding language availability over time.

Siri AI is also unavailable on iPhone and iPad in the European Union at launch because of Apple’s ongoing dispute with regulators over Digital Markets Act requirements. Apple has confirmed there is currently no timeline for the EU iPhone rollout.

For users with an older iPhone, that does not make iOS 27 a minor update. The release still includes system-wide design refinements, customization changes and improvements across apps, but the most significant Siri and Apple Intelligence additions are reserved for newer hardware.
