Apple discontinues Mac Pro with no future models planned

Apple has discontinued the Mac Pro, with no plans to develop future versions of its high-end desktop, according to a new report.
9to5Mac reports that Apple has confirmed the move, with the Mac Pro no longer available to purchase. The “Buy” page for the Mac Pro on Apple’s website now redirects to the main Mac lineup, signaling the end of the product’s availability.
The Mac Pro has long been Apple’s most powerful and expandable Mac, designed for professional users with demanding workflows such as video production, 3D rendering, and software development. First introduced in 2006 as a replacement for the Power Mac G5, the Mac Pro established itself as Apple’s flagship desktop for high-performance computing.
Over the years, the Mac Pro has gone through several major redesigns. The original tower design remained largely unchanged for nearly a decade before Apple introduced the cylindrical “trash can” Mac Pro in 2013, which focused on a compact form factor but received criticism for limited upgradability. Apple later returned to a modular tower design in 2019, reintroducing expansion capabilities and targeting professional users who required more flexibility.
Apple completed its transition to Apple silicon with the Mac Pro in 2023, replacing Intel processors with its own chips while maintaining the modular design. However, the latest report suggests that Apple has now decided to move away from the Mac Pro entirely.
With the Mac Pro discontinued, Apple’s desktop lineup now focuses on the Mac Studio and Mac Pro alternatives powered by Apple silicon, which offer high performance in more compact designs. The decision marks the end of one of Apple’s longest-running Mac product lines.
