Second-generation AirTag expected to launch in early 2026

Apple is expected to introduce a second-generation AirTag in early 2026, following its absence from the company’s product launches this year.
According to previous reporting from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the updated AirTag will feature a significantly enhanced Ultra Wideband chip. The new chip is said to deliver up to three times the tracking range of the current model, dramatically extending Precision Finding capabilities.
At present, Precision Finding works at distances of roughly 10 to 30 metres. With the upgraded hardware, that range could stretch to as much as 90 metres, allowing users to locate misplaced items from much farther away with improved accuracy.
Despite the internal upgrades, the overall design of the AirTag is expected to remain largely unchanged. Reports suggest Apple will stick with the familiar compact, button-like shape and continue to use a replaceable CR2032 battery.
One notable improvement may come in the form of a louder internal speaker. The upgraded speaker is expected to make AirTags easier to hear when searching for lost items, particularly in busy or noisy environments.
