Next-gen iPhone Air could feature two rear cameras

Apple is reportedly developing a second-generation iPhone Air that could feature two rear cameras instead of the single-lens design found on the current model.
According to MacRumors, citing a Chinese leaker with sources inside Apple’s supply chain, the Weibo-based account “Digital Chat Station” claims Apple is testing a dual-lens setup for its next ultra-thin iPhone. The update would see a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera join the existing 48MP Fusion Main camera — similar to the configuration on the standard iPhone 17.
The leaker adds that Apple is expected to retain the horizontal camera plateau, meaning the new second lens would sit beside the main one, rather than adopt the vertical layout seen on the iPhone 17.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously said Apple plans to release the next-generation iPhone Air alongside the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and Apple’s first foldable iPhone in the second half of 2026, followed by a larger iPhone Air model in 2027.
Recent reports suggest that Apple has scaled back production of the current iPhone Air to what sources describe as “end-of-production levels,” according to Nikkei Asia. One supplier told the outlet that “the total forecast has almost entered end-of-production mode, dropping significantly compared to earlier projections.”
The iPhone Air — Apple’s thinnest handset yet at 5.6mm — features a titanium frame, second-generation Ceramic Shield, and a 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR display. Despite its slim design, the device omits features found on the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro, including a second rear camera and larger battery — factors analysts say may have contributed to its weaker demand.
