iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone Air Apple Store demo units show scratches after first day on display

Some of Apple’s brand-new iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone Air models on display in retail stores are already showing signs of wear, with scratches and scuffs visible after just a single day.
As reported by Bloomberg and French blog Consomac, customers have spotted noticeable marks on several display units. The scratches appear particularly prominent on darker finishes, including the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max in Deep Blue and the iPhone Air in Space Black.
Photos shared online show surface scratches along the back and edges of the devices. On the iPhone Air, the outline of the MagSafe charging ring is clearly visible, leaving a circular imprint after being placed on a charging pad.
It’s not yet clear whether these marks are a result of the display units’ heavy in-store use, the durability of the new finishes, or a combination of both. But the reports will likely reignite discussions around the long-term resilience of Apple’s new materials, especially given that the iPhone Air is the company’s thinnest-ever model at just 5.6mm.
