iOS 26 brings polls, custom wallpapers, and group chat typing indicators to Messages

Apple has unveiled iOS 26, introducing a wave of new features designed to make conversations in the Messages app more dynamic and personalized.
Among the highlights: users can now create polls in group chats, allowing everyone to vote and see results in real time. Apple Intelligence can even suggest a poll when it detects that a group decision might be helpful.
Messages is also getting more expressive with the addition of custom chat wallpapers. Using Image Playground, users can generate unique backgrounds or choose from built-in designs and personal photos to give conversations a distinct look.
Group chats are becoming more interactive too, with the long-awaited arrival of typing indicators—so you’ll know when someone’s composing a reply. Apple Cash integration is also expanding, making it easier to send, receive, and request money directly in group chats.
