Apple unveils new Mac Studio featuring M4 Max and new M3 Ultra

Apple has unveiled its latest Mac Studio, featuring the new M4 Max and M3 Ultra chips. The updated desktop computer is designed for high-performance workflows, with prices starting at $1,999.
“The new Mac Studio is the most powerful Mac we’ve ever made,” said John Ternus, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering. “Mac Studio sits in a class of its own, offering a high level of performance in a compact, quiet design.”
The Mac Studio comes in two configurations: M4 Max and M3 Ultra. The M4 Max model includes a 16-core CPU, up to a 40-core GPU, and more than half a terabyte per second of unified memory bandwidth. According to Apple, it’s up to 3.5 times faster than the M1 Max model and up to 6.1 times faster than Intel’s 27-inch iMac.
The M3 Ultra chip pushes performance further, with a 32-core CPU, 80-core GPU, and a 32-core Neural Engine. Apple states that it is up to 2.6 times faster than the M1 Ultra and up to 6.4 times faster than the Intel Xeon W-based Mac Pro.
The Mac Studio with M3 Ultra starts with 96GB of unified memory, configurable up to 512GB. Storage options go up to 16TB of SSD storage. The desktop also features Thunderbolt 5 ports, capable of transfer speeds up to 120 Gb/s — three times faster than the previous generation.
This launch follows Apple’s announcement of the M3 iPad Air and updated 11th-generation iPad on Tuesday, both of which are also available for pre-order and will hit stores next week.
The new Mac Studio is available for pre-order today through Apple’s online store and the Apple Store app in 28 countries and regions. Prices start at $1,999, with availability beginning next week.
