Apple’s long-awaited iPad Pro and iPad Air refresh is likely to arrive during the second week in May, according to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, who suggests that the new devices will launch during the week of May 6 alongside a new Magic Keyboard and a new Apple Pencil.
Discussing the launch of the new iPads in his weekly Power On newsletter on Sunday, Gurman said “For those looking for more specific timing, I’m told the launch will probably happen the week of May 6.”
“Another data point to that end: Apple retail stores are preparing to receive new product marketing materials later that week. That’s typically a sign that a new product release is incoming.”
Apple’s next-generation iPad Pro is rumored to be powered by the M3 chip, currently found in the iMac, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, with the device slated to feature new OLED displays, offering a better viewing experience over LED on the current-generation models thanks to several advantages in display quality including a larger color range and high contrast levels, better handling of darkness and lighting precision, and fast response times.
Initially, rumors pointed to the 2024 iPad Pro lineup potentially reaching a hefty $2,000 price tag, particularly for the largest model. However, a subsequent report refutes these earlier claims, suggesting a more moderate price adjustment. Instead, indications point towards a relatively modest uptick in pricing, hovering around $160 above the current models, which currently commence at $799 and $1099 respectively.
Rumors suggest that the 2024 iPad Air will be available in two sizes: 10.9-inches and 12.9-inches.
The device is expected to feature a redesigned rear camera layout, with both the camera and flash housed in a protruding rectangular module, similar to that seen on the iPhone X.
The 2024 iPad Air is expected to feature the M2 chip with Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6E.
