Apple to release new Mac Studio and Mac Pro this year, new ‘M3 Ultra’ chip to be announced
Apple is reportedly working on updates to its Mac Studio and Mac Pro, with Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman reporting that alongside the launch, the iPhone maker will unveil a fourth variant of the M3 chip, likely the “M3 Ultra” that will double the components of the M3 Max.
In his weekly Power On newsletter, Gurman suggests that 2024 will be a relatively unimpressive year for the Mac lineup, claiming that a new M3-version of the MacBook Air is in development, though the roadmap for the year ahead is looking “otherwise muted.”
Apple launched the Mac Studio in 2022 which was followed by the launch of an updated second-generation last year.
Although Gurman doesn’t speculate on the new power and performance coming to the 2024 Mac Studio and Mac Pro, the new “M3 Ultra” chip destined for the Mac Studio could feature up to 32 CPU cores and 80 GPU cores based on the offerings of the M2 Max and M2 Ultra chips.
