App Store Connect mentions “xrOS” operating system for upcoming Apple mixed-reality headset
App Store Connect, the online portal developers use to upload apps to the App Store, has referenced “xrOS,” the name rumored to be given to the operating system that will run on Apple’s new mixed-reality headset.
As reported by MacRumors, developer Steve Troughton-Smith recently attempted to submit an app made for Apple’s upcoming headset. App Store Connect rejected the app, but recognized it as an xrOS binary, seemingly confirming that to be the name of the operating system that will power the device.
xrOS has long been rumored to be the name chosen by Apple for the new operating system, which will offer a combination of augmented and virtual reality experiences, including VR FaceTime calls, Apple Arcade AR gaming, and more.
Apple’s new mixed-reality headset is expected to be announced at WWDC23 next week which will take place from June 5 through June 9, where the iPhone maker is expected to announce iOS 17, iPadOS 17, watchOS 10, and macOS 14, in addition to a new 15-inch MacBook Air.
