Apple is once again rumored to be preparing a bid to acquire the domestic broadcasting rights for the English Premier League, according to a new report from Bloomberg that cites “people familiar with the situation.”
The report follows after British tabloid newspaper The Daily Mail claimed in January that Apple could submit a bid later this year when the tender process for the next set of rights begin ahead of the Premier League’s current three-year deal with Sky Sports and BT Sport ending in 2025.
The rights under consideration would allow the iPhone maker to show Premier League games in the UK, with Apple likely to submit a multi-billion-pound deal that could see Sky Sports loose the exclusive rights to broadcast the English Premier League that it has had since 1992.
The report follows after the NFL in the US announced that Apple has signed a multi-year partnership for Apple Music to sponsor the Super Bowl Halftime Show, the most-watched musical performance of the year worldwide, and — most notably — that the Apple TV app exclusively streaming live Major League Soccer matches, demonstrating Apple’s eagerness to stream live sports through the Apple TV service.
