Twitter Circle now available — here’s what it is and how it works

Twitter has officially launched Twitter Circle — a new feature that allows users to post tweets that are only available to a selected set of people, creating a space similar to Instagram’s “Close Friends” feature, where users create a list of friends who can see tweets that aren’t available to users outside of the “Circle.”
Twitter Circle has been in testing since May, with the feature rolling out globally today to all users on iOS, Android and the web.
“Twitter Circle is a way to send Tweets to select people, and share your thoughts with a smaller crowd. You choose who’s in your Twitter Circle, and only the individuals you’ve added can reply to and interact with the Tweets you share in the circle,” says Twitter.
Users can add a maximum of 150 people to their close friends “Circle” and only the owner go the group can see the full list of people in their Twitter Circle. People in a Twitter Circle can’t use the Retweet icon to share Twitter Circle Tweets on Twitter, or in their own Twitter Circle.

Users can create a Twitter Circle by composing a Tweet and tapping the Audience menu, where a new Twitter Circle option is now available. Users will be invited to edit their “Circle” and add members to the close friends list — Twitter will show a list of recommended accounts as well as the option to search for users.
