Rumor claims new iPad Air to start with 128GB base storage, M1 chip, and more

Apple’s forthcoming fifth-generation iPad Air will have 128GB base storage confutation, dropping the base 64GB model in the existing lineup according to yeux1122 on Korean blog Naver (via MacRumors), bringing upgraded internals including the M1 chip, 8GB of RAM, and more.

The last-minute rumor follows after the same source claimed Apple’s new iPhone SE, expected to be announced later today, will feature some major upgrades including MagSafe, Ceramic Shield, and “significantly” better battery life.

Yesterday we saw 9to5Mac’s Filipe Espósito claims that Apple’s forthcoming 2022 iPad Air will be powered by the M1 chip – the same chip found in the iPad Pro, 24-inch iMac and 2020 MacBook Pro.

The report said that the new device, known internally by Apple as J408, will also support 5G which had been one of the main rumors after Apple included 5G support with the redesigned iPad mini late last year, noting that the addition of the M1 chip would see iPad Air performance grow 70% compared to the A14 Bionic chip found in the current-generation device.
