iPhone 9 cases appear at Best Buy with alleged April 5 stock date

Cases for Apple’s long-rumored low-cost iPhone, dubbed the iPhone 9, have appeared at American retailer Best Buy, allegedly with the instructions for employees to begin stocking the accessories on April 5, suggesting we may see the iPhone SE predecessor launch this week.

The image above, via MacRumors, shows an Urban Armor Gear case designed for the new “4.7-inch 2020 ‌iPhone‌”. There’s no specific name on the box, so we still are none the wiser as to what Apple will call its low-cost device. Some have suggested the iPhone 9/9 Plus, and others have suggested the iPhone SE 2.

The source’s insight into the supposed stocking date of Sunday, April 5 would suggest we may see Apple officially launch the new iPhone as soon as this week. If so, the device would likely arrive on Apple.com via a press release, similar to how Apple unveiled its new 2020 iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard earlier this month.

Best Buy most recently unveiled Apple’s new Powerbeats before their official release, and in February Target employees from across the US started sharing images of their in-stock inventory systems which showed a list of new Apple devices including, something referred to as “Apple AirPods (X Generation)” with a $399.99 price tag, considerably higher than the current high-end AirPods Pro at $249, new iPod touch, Apple TV and Apple Watch Bands.

Roundup: Apple is expected to release two new low-cost iPhone models, featuring 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch LCD displays. Reports claim the new devices will look almost identical to the iPhone 8, using Touch ID rather than Face ID and one single rear camera. The device is said to use modern internals such as the A13 processor and will be priced from $399, available in both 64GB and 128GB versions in silver, space gray and red.
