Alleged iPhone XI rear chassis appears on Chinese social media

An alleged leaked rear chassis believed to be from one of Apple’s 2019 iPhone models has appeared on Chinese social media site Weibo, resembling the familiar triple-lens rear camera system expected to arrive later in the year with the iPhone XI.

The claimed part was shown today on Weibo and tweeted by Ben Geskin.

We first saw Apple’s rumored square camera bump at the beginning of the year within mockups shared by  reliable leaker Onleaks, who accurately created mockups of the 2018 iPad Pro last year. The mockups were said to be based on early stage test units being used by Apple engineers as one of the possible designs for the next flagship iPhone.

Adding a triple-lens rear camera system to the iPhone would allow for a larger field of view, a wider zoom range, improved low light performance, and the ability to capture more pixels, but the rumored square camera housing isn’t sitting well with Apple enthusiasts.

Described as ugly and obtrusive, the square camera housing could be home to Apple’s new triple-lens camera set-up, the LED flash and small rear microphone. Reports suggest Apple’s next-generation iPhone XS predecessor will feature upgraded Face ID (with a higher power flood illumination), larger batteries and gain the ability to wirelessly charge other devices in addition to a new frosted glass design, with claims from industry analysts reporting the iPhone XI will scrap 3D Touch, similar to the iPhone XR.
