Apple planning three new iPads for first half of 2027, with no launches expected later in year

Apple is reportedly planning a concentrated wave of iPad updates for the first half of 2027, with new versions of the entry-level iPad, iPad Air, and iPad Pro all expected before the middle of the year.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple does not currently expect to introduce any additional iPad models during the second half of 2027, meaning the company’s tablet updates could be heavily concentrated into the opening months of the year.

The roadmap follows Apple’s major iPad mini update in October, which brought OLED, A20 Pro, a thinner design, and IP67 water resistance to the smallest iPad.

Entry-level iPad expected first

Apple’s next entry-level iPad is already expected in early 2027. The Apple Post previously reported that the low-cost model had been pushed into next year, while separate information found in Apple code points to an A19 chip and 8GB of RAM.

The upcoming iPad is also expected to gain Apple Intelligence support, alongside newer connectivity hardware including Apple’s N1 wireless chip and C1X modem in cellular models.

OLED coming to iPad Air

Apple is also expected to bring OLED to iPad Air during the first half of 2027, marking one of the biggest display upgrades the mid-range tablet has received.

The Apple Post has already reported on Apple’s plans for an OLED iPad Air, which would extend the display technology beyond iPad Pro and the newly redesigned iPad mini.

The move would narrow one of the clearest visual differences between iPad Air and iPad Pro, although Apple is still expected to reserve higher-end display features and performance for its Pro models.

Faster iPad Pro with vapor chamber cooling

The next iPad Pro is expected to arrive in the same first-half window with a faster chip and improved thermal management.

Bloomberg says Apple is working on vapor chamber cooling for the tablet, allowing heat to spread more efficiently through the thin chassis during demanding workloads. The Apple Post previously reported that the next iPad Pro could pair the cooling system with Apple’s M6 chip.

A vapor chamber could help the iPad Pro sustain higher performance for longer during tasks including gaming, video editing, 3D workflows, and AI processing without relying as heavily on thermal throttling.

No new iPads expected in the second half of 2027

The latest timing suggests Apple could complete its planned iPad refresh cycle before the second half of 2027 begins.

That would make the first half of the year unusually busy for the iPad lineup, with three separate updates following closely after the all-new iPad mini introduced in October 2026.

Apple’s plans can still change before launch, but the current roadmap points to the entry-level iPad, iPad Air, and iPad Pro all being refreshed within the same six-month window.
